"TV Graphics"
A talk by Vicky Wood
May 2017
The group met at Erica's for our talk on graphics for TV by Hugo and Vicky from Huge (Hugo's graphics company). They described their recent work for a number of the current programmes for BBC, ITV and Sky. He showed us how simple improvisations were used for Downton, Poldark and many other well known productions. The fee they get for this kind of work is £10.000 approx although the Americans tend to pay more than this. For Downton the camera crew for the titles cost £4000 and the dog got £400. And that's just for a day! That is just for the titles and graphics at the start. Hugo demonstrated that when you see Poldark coming over the headland on horse back, the Cornish hills and sea where made of 12 different bits of countryside stitched together using Photoshop. The finished image seamlessly providing the background of the titles.
The morning illustrated how skilful professionals can produce images that give a flavour of the programme that follows.
Look out for Huge in the credits of many familiar programmes. They have already won an Emmy award.
