Startops & Marsworth Reservoirs - 29th January 2016
First of all thanks to all who turned out on a pretty unpleasant morning. The weather started out not too bad and went rapidly downhill as storm Gertrude made her presence felt. At around 11.30 we called it a day, very cold, wet and extremely windblown! Very few birds were on the wing and all the smaller birds were hunkered down keeping away from the weather. However we still managed 32 species one of which was a splendid male Scaup. This species is a winter visitor which is rarely seen away from the coast so we were lucky to see one so far inland. Although Mick struggled with the poor light he still managed to get some reasonable shoots of the Scaup.
